How taxi fares are built
Most taxi fares combine a base fare (also called flag fall), a distance rate and a time or waiting rate. Airport fees, tolls and night or holiday surcharges are added on top, and a minimum fare applies to very short trips. Many cities set legal maximum fares for metered taxis, so always check your local rules.
